Celebrity Colonic Followers…… part one…..

Many people look to celebrities to see what trends are emerging. Style, fashion, and even health decisions are based on what famous folk are up to. It has become increasingly trendy to partake in a colon cleanse and many “A” list celebrities have been open about the type of cleanse they do and the results achieved.
Sometimes, or previously, a hush-hush topic, celebrities are publicly endorsing the benefits of colon cleansing. Many have attested that the practice has helped them remove harmful toxins from their body. In turn, this has helped many have higher energy, improved well being, and less bloating.

1. Oprah Winfrey
For Oprah, colon cleansing was an accompaniment to her weight loss program. She has publicly announced having seen wonderful results, and has endorsed the  cleansing process.

2. Madonna

Madonna has claimed that, in conjunction with good exercise and diet, colon cleansing has helped keep her in shape. The preferred means of cleansing for her, and many celebrities, has been colon hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic. This method, similar to an enema, utilizes a tube inserted into the rectum to deliver water to flush toxins and waste out of the body.

The Christmas and party binging is over.

No more excuses and no chronic last pigouts.

gwyneth paltrowMade popular by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow ( the Cleanses’s fave celeb! ) amongst many others. Its detox time once again.  Our Gwynnie has, for years been an advocate of colonic irrigation.  She mentions regularly about colonic hydrotherapy on her lifestyle website Gloop.

Well good news!! You don’t need to be a Hollywood a-lister !!!

The Cleanse, colonic hydrotherapy is in Barnet!!!

And you dont have to be part of the super rich either as our extended offer of 2 colonics for just £80.00 mean that you will be saving a massive £40!!!

It really is the moment to reclaim your body and your health.

But where to begin when left with the bloated and weighty repercussions of intense end-of-the year gluttony? It’s not easy to detox when you’re caught in crave-the-entire-bread-basket before-your-starter-has-even-arrived cycle. Not to mention that you’re lethargic from not enough sleep and too low on energy to hit the gym.

Rather, you’re filled with endless excuses as to why tomorrow will be a better day to get back into the routine of healthy living.

This Isn’t Just Laying Off The Booze For a Few Weeks

Just like the spring and winter cleaning we do for our home, it’s great to do the same with your body and detox at least twice a year as the seasons change.

natural energiserDetoxing can be a test of discipline and dedication. Regular detoxers swear it boosts energy, increases mental clarity and has skin glowing. For first time detoxers the best results come to those who are able to spend a few days out of your normal schedule and really concentrate on the task in a gentle manner.  Forgoing meats, dairy, grains, fish and fiber and subsisting only on fresh, organic fruits and vegetable juices is easier to maintain when far away from  others. Its all about preparation and forward thinking, making the experience as easy as possible.

A three to five day detox can really welcome the return of energy, restful sleep and overall good feeling. A two-week detox is obvioulsy tougher but brings on significant yet natural weight loss. Most people see 5-7 lbs melt off in a week and as much as 20 lbs in two weeks. After the initial three days of the more challenging 2 week option, detoxers find that hunger pangs, cravings and nausea from low blood sugar disappear. Colonic hydrotherapy in conjunction with your detox will make sure you see the optimum results.

The Cleanse has offers running throughout January to help you on your journey to a healthier happier you.  Contact us NOW.

TEQUILA

teqila-squirrel

OH MY OH MY – I Had to sit down when I first read this one…

TEQUILA IS GOOD FOR YOUR GUT!!!!

Whopppeeeeeeeee

Yes good news – for once – from all of us at THE CLEANSE.  Its been brought to our attention that TEQUILA has many health benefits. There’s info floating around on good old Facebook and we thought to our selves…Is it too good to be true?

AAArrribbbbbaaaa… as the Mexicans say.

tequila-2

Are you surprised to hear TEQUILA has health benefits? In Mexico, where tequila was first developed, it is considered a sophisticated drink and is best enjoyed by taking slow, measured sips. Tequila has a bad reputation because many brands of the drink are mixed with other sugar based alcohols. If you buy a bottle of tequila made from 100% agave – a plant unique to Mexico – the drink can actually have some great benefits.

probiotic-nov-2

TEQUILA IS A PROBIOTIC. Tequila can actually help maintain the proper balance of healthy bacteria in your digestive tract, assisting  with digestion and other health issues. An occasional glass of tequila can act as a probiotic. Probiotics are healthy bacteria in your intestines. They help maintain a healthy immune system. Fructans in agave are rich in probiotics, from which tequila is made. However, moderation is key. If you drink too much alcohol, your natural reserve of healthy bacteria can become depleted.

prebiotics-2TEQUILA IS A PREBIOTIC, which is any food ingredients that promote the growth of good bacteria in the intestines. A study by researchers in Mexico has found that the prebiotics in tequila can improve the intestine environment, which allows for good bacteria to thrive.

TEQUILA is a drink that can help your stomach. Experts suggest a shot before a meal to strengthen your metabolism and appetite. Having a glass after dinner can soothe and assist digestion. It’s recommended that each shot is accompanied by a glass of water.

sheep-2TEQUILA might be better than counting sheep. The drink’s relaxing benefits can help calm nerves and induce sleep, according to research. This is not an answer if you have chronic insomnia, but it does help with episodic encounters. Tequila is best as something to help you unwind on occasion and should not be relied on.

tequilaTEQUILA HELPS WITH MEDICATION. If you have a disease that affects your digestive system, like IBS, colitis or Crohn’s, tequila might be a real help. The fructans in tequila can help medication reach the colon without the stomach acid breaking the pills down. This is because the fructans contain natural chemical carriers which can protect the pills. Scientists are currently looking at adding these type of fructans to prescription medications.

TEQUILA IS KIND AND GENTLE!!! You might associate tequila with strong hangovers, but real tequila doesn’t leave you with painful side effects the next day. It’s important to emphasize that this is only the case for the 100% agave variety. The cheaper brands with the added alcoholic sugars don’t offer this benefit. As with all alcoholic drinks, it’s important to take moderation into account.

body and text about detoxWe would love to offer all of our clients a sneaky shot of Mexican TEQUILA but unfortunatley we can not as we are not licensed!!!  HOWEVER we can offer you excellent advice on gut health and our amazing LIBBE system colonic  hydrotherapy system.

10 HEALTHY foods that aren’t all they make out to be

animal-confused
At THE CLEANSE we encourage clients to take an interest in all things nutritional, we aim to educate and promote an overall healthy lifestyle. Diet, exercise and mindfulness go hand in hand in reaching our goals and feeling the best that we can.
Not everything is always as it seems…You try your best, aiming to eat healthy and clean and low and behold, it turns out that some of the so-called healthy choices we make aren’t actually healthy after all.
THE CLEANSE has compiled 10 of the most common culprits of healthy foods that actually aren’t healthy!!!!…. they may surprise you.
orange-juice-brands1.Orange juice (store bought): Unfortunately processed orange juice really is a prime example of advertising jargon literally fooling us!
It is full of sugars and additives.
Store bought orange juice contains very few minerals and vitamins as it is often made from concentrate and heated. This process removes all the nutrients from the juice!
Better alternative: Fresh squeezed orange juice or eat the orange itself!🍊
2.Soy and tofu:
Soy is one of the most modified crops (it contains high amount of GMOS)
Unfermented soy (like tofu) contain xeno and phytoestrogens that can cause hormonal havoc!
This is a big problem. Soy contains plant estrogens in the form of isoflavones which effectively raise your estrogen levels and therefore lowers your testosterone levels. Those hormones are in competition so more of one means less of the other.
Messing up your estrogen levels has devastating effects for men and women as well as children and newborns.
Men
Improper balance of testosterone to estrogen in men can lead to a lower libido, fat accumulation around the waist and loss of energy, stamina and virility and even man boobs (gynecomastia).
Women
Having abnormally high levels of estrogen doesn’t mean you’ll be more of a woman. It could disrupt your periods, fertility and put you at risk for breast cancer.
Better Alternative: Organic, no-go fermented soy (miso, max once a week
3. Vegetable oil:
Vegetable oils (like Canola) contain high amounts of Polyunsaturated fats which lead to bad cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
They have a low smoke point making them potentially carcinogenic
Better alternative: Use Avocado oil or coconut oil for high heat cooking, and olive oil for low-temperature cooking
popcorn4. Microwave popcorn:I know it’s hard to say no to that buttery goodness but it turns out microwaved popcorn is really bad for us!!!
The bag almost all microwave popcorn varieties come in is lined with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). This chemical is the same toxic stuff found in teflon pots and pans. It can stay in the environment and in the human body for long periods of time. This chemical when heated has been linked to infertility, cancer and other diseases in lab animals. No long term studies have been conducted on humans, but the EPA lists this substance as a carcinogen.
Now, the popcorn itself, even though natural flavors and artificial flavors are listed on the ingredient label of microwave popcorn, we have no way of knowing what’s actually in these ingredients. Food manufacturers won’t tell you and they hide things in there like MSG, beaver’s anal glands and diacetyl butter flavoring. What’s so wrong with a little bit of artificial butter flavoring? Well a lot. This stuff is seriously toxic, which forced Conagra Foods to remove it from their Act branded Microwave popcorn recently because it causes lung issues in workers. This ingredient is also linked to brain issues which cause Alzheimer’s Disease too.
Better alternative:  Make your own!!!
5.Energy drinks:various-energy-drink-brands-20880442
Where to start?? Energy drinks have a list of potential and lethal dangers lets start with the big one…..
Cardiac Arrest:  Those with underlying heart conditions have gone into cardiac arrest after just a few energy drinks. Before drinking energy drinks or caffeine, be sure to know your heart’s health.-A new study showed that energy drinks cause more forceful heart contractions, which could be harmful to some with certain heart conditions.- One study showed that between 2009 and 2011 there were 4854 calls to poison control centers regarding energy drinks. 51% of these calls were involving children.
Headaches and Migraines: Too many energy drinks can lead to severe headaches from the caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Changing the amount of caffeine you ingest daily can cause more frequent headaches.
Increased Anxiety: Those with 2 different genetic variations in their adenosine receptors are prone to feeling increased anxiety when consuming caffeinated beverages such as energy drinks. Larger doses of caffeine can even spur on full blown panic attacks.
Insomnia: Energy drinks do a good job of keeping people awake, but when abused, they can cause some people to miss sleep altogether. This lack of sleep causes impaired functioning and can be dangerous to drive or perform other concentration heavy tasks.
Type 2 Diabetes: Because many energy drinks are also very high in sugar, they can eventually wear out the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas, which leads to type 2 diabetes.
Drug Interaction: Some of the ingredients in energy drinks can interact with prescription medications especially medications taken for depression.
Addiction: People can become addicted to caffeine and energy drinks. This can lead to lack of functioning when unable to have the energy drink.
All energy drinks obviously contain loads of sugar and other not so healthy additives (like food colouring)
Can also contain sugar alcohols which have been linked to cancer
Better alternative: Try substituting an Espresso, green drink, Yerba mate or green tea powder!
6. Diet soda
When taken at face value, diet soda seems like a health-conscious choice. It saves you the 140-plus calories you’d find in a sugary soft drink while still satisfying your urge for something sweet with artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose. But there’s more to this chemical cocktail than meets the eye. Artificial sweeteners have more intense flavor than real sugar, so over time products like diet soda dull our senses to naturally sweet foods like fruit. Even more troubling, these sugar stand-ins have been shown to have the same effect on your body as sugar. “Artificial sweeteners trigger insulin, which sends your body into fat storage mode and leads to weight gain,”
Diet sodas often contain aspartame, food coloring and other dangerous additives
Better alternative: Kombucha or a cold pressed juice!
Low-fat muffinsThese contain more calories than donuts!
“Low-fat” foods are loaded with sugar and other additive to make up for a lack of taste
Better alternative: Reach for some sliced apple and nut butter as a midday
snack or try protein power balls!sprouted-bread
 7. Whole wheat breadNo bread is the goal!
It has been known for a long time that white bread and refined grains in general aren’t particularly nutritious.Nutritionists and dietitians all around the world have encouraged us to eat whole grains instead. But grains, especially gluten grains like wheat, have been under intense scrutiny in recent years. Even whole grain bread usually isn’t made with actual “whole” grains. They are grains that have been pulverized into very fine flour. Even though this process reserves the nutrients, it causes these products to be digested rapidly. The starches in bread get broken down quickly in the digestive tract and enter the bloodstream as glucose. This causes a rapid spike in blood sugar and insulin levels. Even whole wheat bread spikes blood sugar faster than many candy bars. When blood sugar goes up rapidly, it tends to go down just as quickly. When blood sugar goes down, we become hungry. This is the blood sugar roller coaster that is familiar to people on high carb diets. Soon after eating, they become hungry again, which calls for another high-carb snack. Elevated blood sugars can also cause glycation at the cellular level when the blood sugars react with proteins in the body. This is one of the components of ageing.Studies on carb restricted diets (which eliminate/reduce starches and sugars) suggest that individuals who are diabetic or need to lose weight should avoid all grains. Many respected health professionals now claim that bread and other sources of gluten grains are unnecessary at best and potentially harmful.
Most bread on the market contains refined wheat (and gluten)which can cause a leaky gut, inflammation, and other digestive issues!
Better alternative: Ezekiel bread or Sprouted Spelt bread🍞
Fruit drinksBasically, these are sugar water! Fruit drink offer NO nutrition value!
Better Alternative: Infused water! Try adding fresh cucumbers, mint and lemon for a tastier water.
8. Gluten free/ sugar-free/ fat-free branded food:Stir away from diet/ sugar-free/ fat-free foods! They are often the unhealthiest foods out there
Labels do not mean anything! They are just a very good marketing strategy.
Read your ingredients! These products often have lots of sugar, additives, preservatives and chemicals to make up for taste which leads to digestive and other health ailments.
9.Tuna
Over farmed and contains high amounts of mercury which can lead to mercury poisoning
Better Alternative: Limit to light Light flaked tuna (smaller the fish the less mercury – made from meat, not mulch)
10.Reduced fat Peanut Butter
Filled with crap (chemicals/ other additives) 2 teaspoons of peanut butter come in at a whopping 190 calories!!!!!
Natural (sugar and salt-free) is always better
Better alternative: Try Natural peanut butter, almond butter or try sunflower seed butterMargarineMade from refined vegetable oils like canola oil
Even the “olive oil”, “hearty healthy” versions of margarine are mostly made from refined vegetable oils
Better alternative: Organic raw butter or ghee
We hope these tips have been helpful in making educated choices.  Good nutrition, exercise and mental wellness all add to a healthier, happier, lifestyle.

ALL DISEASES START IN THE GUT  – Hippocrates

Hippocrates said this more than 2,000 years ago, but we’re only now coming to understand just how right he was. Research over the past two decades has revealed that gut health is critical to overall health, and that an unhealthy gut contributes to a wide range of diseases including diabetes, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, autism spectrum disorder, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.

In fact, many researchers believe that supporting intestinal health and restoring the integrity of the gut barrier will be one of the most important goals of medicine in the 21st century.

We tend to take our gut for granted, and it costs us dearly. We continually eat wrong foods that are rarely digested properly. The by-products of incomplete digestion clog the gut with accumulated debris. This coating becomes a perfect breeding ground for dangerous forms of bacteria and other microorganisms.

What is worthwhile for anyone to consider, however, is how you can improve your crucially important digestive system and the overall health of your gut. It doesn’t have to be fancy or all-consuming, nor does it require you to fork out money for supplements promising you this or that.

Want to feel better by improving your digestion, reducing overgrowths of bad bacteria and yeast, increasing growth of good bacteria, encouraging better absorption of nutrients and aiding your body in dealing with toxins?
Here is a list of practical and simple ways that anyone can improve their gut health:

DRINK LESS WITH MEALS.

When you drink a lot during a meal, it dilutes the levels of hydrchloric acid in your stomach. Without sufficient HCL, digestion can not proceed quickly or smoothly. Try to have your drinks at least 30 minutes before, or 30-60 minutes after you eat.

Additionally, beverages that are room temperature are easier on the digestive system than really cool drinks, so skip the ice if you can (and knowing this, I still drink cold smoothies, but I do try to have most of my other beverages sans ice).

HAVE FERMENTED FOODS WITH OR JUST BEFORE YOUR MEALS.

As a rich source of enzymes, naturally fermented foods help to break down what we eat, in addition to boosting the good bacteria count in our bodies. A few examples are kefir or yogurt, kombucha, sour cream or creme fraiche, fermented veggies (lacto-fermented pickles or salsa, sauerkraut) and any other food that is naturally lacto-fermented or made using live bacterial cultures.
Try adding just one or two fermented and/or cultured foods to your family’s repertoire.

ADD HOMEMADE BONE BROTHS TO YOUR DIET AND TRY TO INCLUDE THEM IN MEALS AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN.

broth

Use them in soups and stews, in gravies, in pasta sauces, in casseroles and pot pies, or even drink them by the mug with or in between your meals. Truly healing and soothing to the gut, bone broths are a frugal homemakers best friend on the road to better health. Broths are cheap and easy to make, and when made correctly, are powerhouses of gut-healing gelatin and other nourishing nutrients.

TAKE PROBIOTICS.

probiotic3

Here at The Cleanse we don’t recommend too many supplements, because we prefer to get our nutrition from whole foods. However, there are two that we regularly recommend and they are cod liver oil and a good quality probiotic. You might have heard of acidophilus, which is just one of the many beneficial bacteria strains that we want to populate our gut.  After every session of colonic hydrotherapy we offer a complimentary pro-biotoic to help replenish the good bacteria.

Probiotics, have been found to help restore and provide healthy bacteria to the digestive tract that may help to promote healthier digestion- and for many, reduced stomach discomfort.

For many reasons due to our diet, chlorinated water, antibiotic use and more, we need to be proactive about repopulating our gut with these friendly little bacteria, who do so much more in our bodies than we really give them credit for.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts promoted as having various health benefits. They’re usually added to yoghurts or taken as food supplements, and are often described as ‘good’ or ‘friendly’ bacteria.

Probiotics are thought to help restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut (including your stomach and intestines) when it has been disrupted by an illness or treatment.

Key Tip: When looking for a probiotic, search for a variety that has 5+ different varieties of bacteria. Alternatively, Kefir and yogurts also contain a healthy amount of probiotics.Cut Back on Raw Cruciferous Vegetables

Raw vegetables, particularly cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts although healthful, can cause major stomach discomfort for many people. BUT cruciferous vegetables that are raw do provide many nutrients and potential health benefits so instead of cutting them out completely, try to cut back in amount (for example if you usually eat 1 cup, try 1/2 cup) per serving and try cooking before eating. When cooked, cruciferous vegetables may be slightly more tolerable, but there are also plenty of other healthful vegetables that can be swapped.

Key Tip: Swap in spinach, arugula, romaine and other greens for kale, cabbage, and other cruciferous vegetables on occasion; overall, varying vegetables can also help to provide an abundance of nutrients.

Eat Consistently
No this doesn’t mean just pig out all day long but proper frequent eating is one of the most important aspects of not only weight loss, but regularity and preventing/improving acid reflux. When it comes to acid reflux specifically, one of the major contributors is having an empty stomach, so when Rebooters start having healthy meals and juices every 2-3 hours, many notice that symptoms subside.

Key Tip:: Make an eating schedule for times that you will be aiming to have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks; if you have trouble remembering to eat, try setting a phone alarm to remind yourself.

Cut Back on Acidic Foods

Acidic foods can be hard on the stomach, particularly when it’s empty (and also for anyone with heartburn). If you want to include citrus containing foods make sure to have something along with your food or juice containing acidic ingredients. If you don’t have acid reflux problems or tummy troubles, then drinking warm lemon water in the morning is a habit you should keep!

Key Tip: Eat up before drinking and chowing down on citrus-containing foods and teas; if you’re looking to swap out citrus from a juice try subbing for ginger instead.lemon in waterCitrus-containing foods, like lemons and oranges contain flavanoids, and have been shown to be potentially stomach-cancer preventive, so if you don’t have acid reflux or trouble with acidic foods, you can include them more frequently for anti-cancer benefits. (Hint: the flavanoid is found in the peel, so add some zest to your meal or leave the peel on when juicing.)

Key Tip: If you identify food (or foods) that may be causing gastrointestinal distress, try removing them for three days and see if symptoms improve.

Load up on White Vegetables
Load up on white, allium vegetables including garlic, leeks and scallions that contain a powerful antioxidant compound called allicin that may help to prevent stomach cancer. When it comes to garlic, you must prepare the garlic then let it sit for 10 minutes before using to ensure that you reap the entirety of the benefits.

Key Tip: Cook with garlic, leeks and scallions (following the tip above for garlic) add to soups, salad dressings, and cooked entrees.

 Eat More Orange Vegetables

roasted veg

Orange vegetables like carrots and sweet potatoes contain powerful anti-cancer nutrients including powerful antioxidant vitamin C and beta-carotene that may help to prevent cell damage; sweet potatoes also contain potentially anti-cancer caffeic acid that may help to prevent blood supply from reaching tumors.

Key Tip: Add more orange vegetables to juices, salads, entrees and other meals. Try this Trick or Treat Juice!

Cut Back on Overly Salted & Cured Foods

Nitrates (preservatives) found in cured meats and foods have been found to raise risk for stomach cancer as well as overly salted foods. They are actually listed as one of the top five foods you should never eat.

Key Tip: Search for nitrate-free meats and processed foods (although you should always aim to eat as few processed foods as possible!).

BREAKFAST LIKE A KING!!!! And other useful tips….

Here at THE CLEANSE we want our clients to feel amazing.  Our colonic hydrotherapy treatment ensures that they are looking after themselves from the inside out!

We know how important it is to feel the best you can especially with summer in sight.  Here are some tips and rules for you to incorporate into your everyday regime……

1. Don’t skip breakfast!

Theres an old saying that says “BREAKFAST LIKE A KING, LUNCH LIKE A PRINCE, DINE LIKE A PAUPER”  This ancient proverb has more than a grain of truth in it, but sadly, most people leading today’s busy lives skip breakfast altogether. This is really bad news as ideally you should be getting about a quater of your day’s calories from breakfast, enough to keep you going right through till lunchtime, both physically and mentally. Starting the day without refuelling your body’s engine means poor concentration, irritability, low blood sugar and a dreadful craving for the biscuit tin or chocolate bar in the middle of the morning.eggs breakfast

A staggering five million people don’t bother to eat breakfast at home but grab a snack while dashing to work. They consume one and a half million bacon sandwiches, over a million packets of crisps, and three-quarters of a million ham sandwiches and more than a million sugary soft drinks. But worse still, half the working population skip breakfast altogether and another half a million grab a bag of sweets or bar of chocolate on their way.

elvis eating breafast
yes !!! Breakfast like the KING

Breakfast is exactly what it says, breaking your fast, and for most people the time they spend in bed is the longest period they go without food. When you get up in the morning it may easily be 8 – 12 hours since you last ate and your blood sugar level is at rock bottom. In order for your brain to function properly it needs a constant supply of sugar which is why starting your day with breakfast is so important. Skipping breakfast means poorer performance by schoolchildren, a greater risk of accidents when driving, and a lack of efficiency and concentration at work.

And just to prove the point, a study published last year showed that people who ate breakfast were definitely happier than those who didn’t.

2.Eat Every Three Hours
Eating small meals every three hours promises to get rid of stubborn belly fat without giving up your favorite foods or having to commit to a full-fledged exercise program. In fact, exercise is optional with this program. The 3-Hour Diet promises that within just two weeks of following  it, your levels of the stress hormone cortisol (which is said to cause belly fat) will be reduced, and so will your waistline.

kingIts not unusual to drop 10 pounds during the first two weeks and then lose additional weight every week after that. The diet promotes itself as one that addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of weight loss. It also claims to be easy enough to follow that you will be able to stick with it until you reach your goals.

Here is an example of how your day may look:

eat breakfast at 7 a.m.
have a snack at 10 a.m.
eat lunch at 1 p.m.
have a second snack at 4 p.m.
eat dinner at 7 p.m.

To follow the diet correctly, dieters must make sure they stop eating at least three hours before going to sleep.

This diet is based on the belief that if you go for more than three hours without putting food in your body, it goes into “starvation mode.” In other words, your body stores fat and burns muscle, slowing down your metabolism as if preparing for a period of hunger. Eating consistently will keep your metabolism moving quickly, helping you burn fat all day.

There are no banned foods as such.  When following the plan many people choose to weigh there food or choose simple healthy/clean options.

3. Reduce added sugar

Sugar Is The Devil!!!! seems to be the catchphrase of the moment. Every celebrity chef in the universe has brought out a book showing how us just how much better our food can taste WITHOUT adding sugar.  AND they are not wrong!!!! The effect of added sugar on us as a nation is becoming blatantly obvious.  Swap refined carbohydrates such as white bread rice and pasta for wholegrain alternatives that real ease energy more slowly.

4.Eat Essential Fats

Another turnaround in the industry, which often confuses us with conflicting information is that we are relying on low-fat products and in doing so could mean we are deficient in “good” essential fatty acids, found in oily fish, nuts and seeds.  These fatty acids help to boost your metabolism so should form part of your diet.

5. Add Protein to each Meal

chickenProtein from meat, fish, eggs and pulses slows down the rate that your stomach processes food and delays the passage of carbohydrates as well.  as soon as you add a protein to a carbohydrate you change it into a slower releasing carb that keeps your sugar levels stable

Lean meats, such as chicken, fish, and lean beef are potent sources of protein: three ounces can offer as much as 22-26 grams. They also have a minimal amount of fat compared to steak, ground beef and other heavily fatty meats. Even eggs can work as a potent source of protein, though you shouldn’t eat more than four whole eggs a week. If you’re crazy about eggs, try eating just egg whites or fewer yolks.

6. Dont Count Calories

Calorie-conciousness shifts emphasis from how you eat to how much you eat. Counting calories ultimately prevents a harmonious relationship with food. Instead of welcoming food as life-giving nourishment, calorie counting produces apprehension of food.

In the same way, calorie-counting de-personalizes one’s relationship with food. A common practice is determine one’s ideal daily calories or even calories burned while exercising. Sadly, that creates a mechanical, stressful relationship with food. It is also very easy to make completely wrong calculations – so why bother!!!

Weight loss begins with whole, nourishing foods prepared at home. It means eating mindfully, chewing food slowly, repeating the food we eat.  Don’t sit eating your meal with your telephone or iPad in one hand, concentrate and enjoy the lovely breakfast/lunch or dinner that you have prepared.

7. Watch What You Drink

red bull

Ive left the toughest one to last – ALCOHOL and sugary drinks!!!!  Cut out all sugary drinks and significantly reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake, that includes all coffees and energy drinks.  If you just can’t live without your morning tea or espresso make sure you don’t drink it on an empty stomach as caffeine gets straight into your bloodstream and triggers cortisol release.  If the release of cortisol is too much it can be linked to excess belly fat!!!

Detox tips

Here at THE CLEANSE we pride ourselves on encouraging our clients not only to incorporate colonic hydrotherapy into their health and well being routine but to look at the many ways that we can help our systems.  The human body is truly fantastic and in a perfect, stress free, additive free world would need no help!  However in today’s fast paced world we sometimes need to take time out to help it along.

Here are just a few, brilliant detox tips to help aid our systems of toxins…….

far_infrared_sauna_room_lrgINFRARED SAUNAS
Infrared saunas help flush out heavy metals found in our body. Unlike traditional saunas, infrared heat triggers the release of waste from the subcutaneous fat just underneath the skin. It allows the body to slowly remove toxins from organs and connective tissues, which make their way to the fat tissue beneath the skin – to then be flushed out through sweating.

Dr A J Adams of the International Institute of Holistic Healing, writes in a report that traditional saunas expel up to 97 percent water – while the sweat from an infrared sauna emits only 80 to 85 percent water. The rest of the 15 to 20 percent contained heavy metals, sodium, ammonia, fat-soluble toxins, and sulphuric acid. Plus, listen up gout sufferers – it also releases gout’s best friend – uric acid. All of these toxins compromise our organs, especially the liver and kidneys.

Infrared saunas speed up the detoxification process by heating your tissues several inches deep – purging the toxins that are making us sick and unhealthy. According to the medical director of the Hippocrates Health Institute, Dr Brian Clement, “Infrared saunas help release every toxic contamination you have in your body; most notably mercury and lead.”

As an added bonus, you can burn as many as 300 to 600 calories during one 30-minute session. I always leave the sauna feeling like a new woman. Remember to consume adequate electrolyte and mineral replacements to prevent dehydration and mineral loss. I recommend drinking coconut water during and after a session.

Coriander2CORIANDER (CILANTRO) AND CHLORELLA

These two miraculous superfoods are heavy metals worst nightmare. They bind with heavy metals and yank mercury, cadmium, lead, and other chemicals right out of your body. “Initial studies indicate that fresh cilantro may be extremely effective in flushing heavy metals out of the blood,” states Robert C Atkins, MD. “Taking 400mg of cilantro daily can pretty much clean out heavy metals out of the body in just two weeks.”

Kale, watercress, wheatgrass, sea vegetables, and spirulina are also awesome detoxifiers. This is a favourite recipe.. I add one bunch of fresh cilantro, 1-tablespoon chlorella powder, 2-3 tablespoons of hummus, 1-2 garlic cloves, and 1-2 avocados in a high-speed processor. After pureeing, I add some “already soaked” pine nuts, Himalayan sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, some lime juice, and sprinkle nutritional yeast on top. You can mix this with some brown rice pasta, a large salad, or spread it on rice cakes.

IODINE
Another way to rid your body of heavy metals is by eating iodine rich foods. Your thyroid needs iodine to function properly. Since our bodies do not store iodine, we must consume it regularly. Eating foods containing iodine will make sure your thyroid is able to manage metabolism and detoxification. Some foods that thinning is caused by heavy metal toxicity.

liver detoxLIVER DETOX
Your liver is the biggest internal organ, and did you know it is the only organ that can regenerate itself? Look at it as your body’s lab – where it handles toxins, fats, and hormones. The liver works harder than you can imagine – performing more than 500 important bodily functions! For example, it combats infections, defeats toxins, controls blood sugar, burns fat, and bile transports the garbage away from the liver, helping it to detoxify the blood.

What is bile? Bile is a yellowish-green liquid produced by your liver and stored in the gallbladder. It assists in digesting last night’s meal. Bile is released into the small intestine, where it helps with the digestion of fats. “Bile is composed of cholesterol, water, pigments, lecithin, and salts (electrolytes), including calcium,” says Rupa Seetharamaiah, MD at Baptist Health South Florida.

Sadly, the typical modern lifestyle puts a lot of strain on our liver. How many of us stress out about things? Well, stress negatively impacts the liver.

What if your liver is in the pits? A run-down liver hinders the movement of bile, resulting in faulty toxic elimination. An improved liver will allow it to process fats, toxins, and hormones better. The quick expulsion of waste means your body will have the time to handle other tasks, such as growing healthy hair – instead of focusing all of its attention on poison removal.

Your body will work really well, and you will look and feel healthier. Your hair will look radiantly healthy, and your cleaner blood will then improve circulation – allowing for the nutrients from your “new and improved diet” to do the jobs they are meant to do!
Drink lemon water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. The lemon juice dissolves the mucus in your body and supports the liver.

Cut out or seriously reduce your caffeine intake – BUT if you must drink your coffee, at least read my article on how to drink it the right way.

Try and do a 1-3 day juice and smoothie fast or a 3-day raw food “only” diet as both are effective at reducing the body’s toxic overload.

Drink at least 2 litres of pure water a day, but never with food. Sipping on water during meals will only dilute your digestive enzymes, which help you digest food efficiently. Shunning water can increase your risk of gallstones, which is when bile becomes too concentrated in the gallbladder.

Invest in some milk thistle since it protects your liver’s cells from chemicals and alcohol.

spicesSpice your food with turmeric, an ancient Indian spice. It possesses fantastic anti-inflammatory effects – helping your liver fight off infections and viruses.

Back in the day, people treasured dandelion root for healing their sick livers. Dandelion root improves liver function by eradicating toxins and normalising hydration and electrolyte balance.

Look into Methionine, an essential amino acid that is vital for optimal liver health. A study done on rats showed that they developed steatohepatitis (a fancy name for “fatty liver”) when fed a diet devoid of methionine. Methionine forms part of a group known as glutathione, an antioxidant that protects the liver and other cells from destruction. Glutathione attaches itself to toxins and flushes them out of the body. It is found in brussel sprouts, garlic, carrots, grapefruits, avocados, asparagus, and spinach. There is one catch though. You must eat them RAW (uncooked). None of the foods I just mentioned contain this potent antioxidant once cooked. Raw Food For The Win!

Get in the choline. It helps keep your liver in tip-top shape. Choline aids in evicting unwanted fats inside your liver. Vegans and vegetarians need this B vitamin in their diet since animal products are the best dietary sources of choline. You can get choline in supplement form or via foods, such as organic egg yolks, salmon, organic beef, lecithin, kale, spinach, broccoli, wheat germ, brussel sprouts, and almond butter.

Look at your transition to eating healthy as an adventure. I know it can be boring and heavy going sometimes but this challenge will result in you feeling the best you have ever felt, with amazing skin, glowing hair and an abundance of energy.

Do your own research – even if you give yourself 30 minutes a day to learn something new – you will soon stop being a skeptic! Your body is you.  It should be treated as a temple not as rubbish dump.

A good nights sleep is an amazing thing!

Waking to feel rejuvenated and ready to take the world on is a priceless feeling.

Here at THE CLEANSE we have always been proud to list one of the many benefits to having regular colonic hydrotherapy sessions, is  the fact that sleep can improve even after one session.  Ridding our colon of toxins aids a good nights sleep and mental clarity.  THE CLEANSE takes a look at some worrying side effects of sleep deprivation……now don’t be having nightmares!…..

A small new study in the journal Sleep shows that sleep-deprived faces look more, shall we say, weary — in the form of redder and more swollen eyes, dark under-eye circles, more wrinkles and droopier eyelids — than well-rested faces.

“Since faces contain a lot of information on which humans base their interactions with each other, how fatigued a person appears may affect how others behave toward them,” study researcher Tina Sundelin, M.Sc., a doctoral student in the department of psychology at Stockholm University in Sweden, said in a statement. “This is relevant not only for private social interactions, but also official ones such as with health care professionals and in public safety.”

The study is based on 10 people who had photographs taken of them at 2:30 PM after eight hours of sleep and after going 31 hours without sleep. Then, 40 study participants looked at 20 photographs and rated them based on fatigue, sadness and facial cues

4 lid blepharoplasty preIndeed, the photos of the subjects when they were sleep-deprived depicted more dark under-eye circles, paler skin, and droopy corners of the mouth. The study participants also said that the people who were sleep-deprived looked sadder because they looked tired.

Recently, a study commissioned by Estée Lauder showed that sleep deprivation could make your skin age faster, as well as lower its ability to recover from sun exposure, HuffPost50 reported.estee lauder

SLEEP DEPRIVATION DANGERS

1. Increases Stroke Risk – Even without the typical risk factors, like being overweight or having a family history, short sleep can catch up your risk for stroke, according to 2012 research. Adults who regularly slept fewer than six hours a night had four times the risk of stroke symptoms, HuffPost reported.

fat women eating on beach2. Lead to Obesity – Too little sleep can spur less-than-ideal food choices, including serving yourself larger portions, and a hankering for junk food, thanks to some complicated hormonal changes that occur when you don’t get sufficient shuteye. It seems that six hours of sleep or less bumps up production of the hunger hormone ghrelin and limits leptin, which helps you balance your food intake.

diabetes

3. Up Diabetes Risk – A pair of small studies from 2012 examined the link between poor sleep and insulin resistance, a telltale risk factor for diabetes. One found that among healthy teenagers, the shortest sleepers had the highest insulin resistance, meaning the body is not using insulin effectively, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The second study examined fat cells, in particular, and found that cutting back on sleep increased insulin resistance in these cells, even when diet and calorie intake were restricted, Health.com reported.

4. Fuel Memory Loss – You probably know that on the days when you are most tired, you’re forgetful and unfocused — but sleep deprivation can lead to permanent cognitive issues. The less we sleep, the less we benefit from the memory storing properties of sleep. But additionally, a lack of sleep can cause “brain deterioration,” according to a 2013 study, which may at least in part explain memory loss in seniors.

5. Damage Bones – At least in rats, long-term sleep deprivation seems to contribute to osteoporosis, according to a 2012 study. Researchers found changes to bone mineral density and bone marrow in the rodents when they were deprived of shuteye over a period of 72 days.

“If true in humans, and I expect that it may be, this work will have great impact on our understanding of the impact of sleep deprivation on osteoporosis and inability to repair bone damage as we age,” Steven R. Goodman, Ph.D., editor-in-chief of Experiment Biology and Medicine, said in a statement.

6. Increases Cancer Risk – A small (but growing) body of research suggest that short and poor sleep can up risk for certain types of cancer. A 2010 study found that among 1,240 people screened for colorectal cancer, the 338 who were diagnosed were more likely to average fewer than six hours of sleep a night. Even after controlling for more traditional risk factors, polyps were more common in people who slept less, according to the study.

Getting just six hours of sleep a night has also been linked to an increase of recurrence in breast cancer patients. The study’s author has pointed to more and better sleep as a possible pathway of reducing risk and recurrence.

heart

Hurt Your Heart – The stress and strain of too little sleep can cause the body to produce more of the chemicals and hormones that can lead to heart disease, according to 2011 research. The study found that people who slept for six hours or less each night and have problems staying asleep had a 48% higher risk of developing or dying from heart disease.

Kill You – It’s not just heart problems that can lead to sleep-deprivation-related death. In fact, short sleepers seem to die younger of any cause than people who sleep about 6.5 to 7.5 hours a night, TIME reported. A 2010 study examined the impact of short sleep on mortality and found that men who slept less than six hours were four times more likely to die over a 14-year period. The study’s authors called this link “a risk that has been underestimated.”

A colonic isn’t everbodys idea of glamour!!! However, I urge you to consider it.   I read recently that a Victoria’s Secret model who is always asked “What is the beauty tip you swear by?” quoted “Colonic Hydrotherapy! It’s made my life 100% healthier and happier.”So my slogan Love YOU From The Inside seems to be a universal one! And my mantra “Love ME From The Inside” is exactly what the doctor ordered!elle mcpherson

Colonic hydrotherapy doesn’t induce relaxation like a facial or massage, and you may encounter some mild discomfort, but afterwards you’ll feel like a million dollars. You’ll be as light as a feather, and did I mention you’ll walk out with a flatter belly?

Colonic hydrotherapy uses a tube no bigger then the tiny tip of a pencil to introduce a continual flow of water into your rectum. The water then flushes waste matter that’s been dislodged inside your colon for months – sometimes even years! Believe it or not – not everything you ingest comes out of your body. Chips, burgers, and other junk food love sticking around in your colon. Worst of all, they’re annoying guests who never leave. That’s why you need to kick them.

“WHY DO YOU GET COLONICS?”

shadowcat_bloated_belly_by_these50-d359jn8
Three Words: Beat the Bloat. I suffered from irregularity issues and wasn’t going to the toilet. That coupled with bloating meant I was always terribly uncomfortable . Some days I couldn’t even button up my jeans – that was when I yelled, “Enough is enough!”

After modifying my eating habits, I started experiencing some pretty rough detox symptoms. That’s when the colonics helped the most. They enabled me to transition to healthier wholesome foods much easier. They’re an absolute must when undergoing a detoxification program – and will take your health to the next level.

If you looked at the amount of food you put in your body and mashed it up in a pot, you’re not getting anything near that much out.

Another way to tell the state of your bowel is very easy. When you wake up in the morning after you go to the bathroom, suck in your midsection very deeply as you exhale. If you have a clean intestine that’s not holding waste, your belly button should be almost kissing your spine. It should almost look like you’re actually starving. If you don’t get that, and all you can do is pull in a tiny bit, your intestine is full of matter and that’s not good.”

FIVE BENEFITS OF COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY

Destroys Constipation – Colonic irrigation strengthens the bowel and gives it energy. Unlike laxatives, colonics don’t make your bowels lazy.

Enhances Digestion – Wave goodbye to irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, and gas.

Boosts Immune System – Some holistic practitioners profess that “all disease begins in the colon.” Colonics also create a healthy environment for friendly bacteria to grow. Plus, a cleaner colon guarantees you’ll absorb vitamins and minerals better.energyMore Energy and Happier Moods – Helps relief fatigue and laziness, improves mental clarity, and combats mood swings.

Anti-Aging and Brighter Skin – Colonics bring out clearer and glowing skin. It also assists with eczema, psoriasis, acne and other skin disorders.clear skin 2

TIPS FOR AN EFFECTIVE COLONIC SESSION

Hydrate – Make sure to drink loads of water. I’m talking about a minimum of 2 liters (about 9 cups) a day prior to your session.
Eat your Vegetables – Scoff down lots of salads with kale, spinach, asparagus, cucumbers, and celery.
Bust Out the Juicer – Drink fresh juices.  A healthy juice should include beetroot, carrot, celery, lemon and apple.
Ban the Booze – Alcohol and good colonic sessions just don’t mix. Enough said.
No Coffee or Sodas – Coffee dehydrates and sodas make you gassy. Both dehydration and gas are enemies to having a great colonic, so kiss them goodbye.
Stay Away from Dairy, Meat, and Junk Food – All three will just make your colonic appointment more uncomfortable, and you risk a chance of not much “waste” coming out.
Massage your Stomach – This helps produce more regular bowel movements. Simply massage your right side of the abdomen and work your way up clock-wise, and then across and down to the left side in small circles.
Headstands – As strange as this sounds, they do help! Headstands help with digestion and also increase body heat. The pull of gravity helps clean out the intestines by releasing congested blood in the colon.
