Apple Cider Vinegar – Who knew??

 


 

Here at The Cleanse, colonic hydrotherapy,  we love to share with you all any current trends in health, lifestyle and all things digestion!!! Heres our most recent discovery……

You know what they say: A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. Or is it a spoonful of vinegar helps celebrities stay fit?

Stars like Miranda Kerr and Megan Fox have been vocal about their love of apple cider vinegar for years now, and this trend isn’t going away. Back in 2010 Megan Fox said, “It just cleanses out your system entirely.”

And then there’s Miranda, who likes to drizzle it on her salad. She told Vogue Australia this month that she always makes “a big salad with finely chopped fennel, cucumber, feta cheese, baby spinach, avocado…and a dressing of macadamia oil, apple cider vinegar and Bragg’s amino acids.”

That actually sounds delicious, except for the amino acids part! Miranda also mentions that she uses the potent stuff for shiny hair. “You put on a little bit on in the shower as a rinse, and then wash it out. It stinks a little bit, but then you use conditioner and the smell goes away,” she said.

I recently began taking ACV shots a few times a day for a quick and effective energy burst. However, I’ve since discovered so many other useful ways to incorporate ACV into my daily routine.

It’s effective for pretty much anything — your skin, your hair, your house, and even your pets can benefit from its qualities. Raw, organic, unfiltered, and unpasteurized, ACV is so much more than a salad dressing!

1. ACV can detoxify your home.

It’s made from apple juice and is fermented to hard apple cider. It’s then fermented a second time to become apple cider vinegar. By using ACV in lieu of other products, we instantly decrease the consumption of unnatural chemicals in our homes and daily lives.

2. It can make your hair shine.

Apple cider vinegar can be used as a rinse for your hair after shampooing, and it will boost your hair’s body and shine. I recommend recycling an old shampoo bottle, then filling it with ½ tablespoon of ACV and 1 cup of cold water. Pour the solution through your hair after shampooing. Do this several times a week for dramatic results.

3. Natural ACV regulates the pH of your skin.

Dilute ACV with two parts water, and spread the concoction over your face with a cotton ball to replace your current toner. You can do this at night after washing, and in the morning before you apply your moisturizer. A dab of ACV can also be left on the skin overnight to fade age spots or acne scars.

It’s also a recommended agent for warts. For warts, soak a cotton ball in ACV, then fasten the cotton ball over the wart with a Band-Aid overnight. The skin may swell some as it reacts with the solution. However, the wart will fall off. Once it falls off, the treatment should be continued for a few more days, to make sure the wart doesn’t return.

4. It can remove stains from teeth.

Rub teeth directly with apple cider vinegar, and rinse with water.

5. It can soothe sunburned skin.

Add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath, and soak for 10 minutes to eliminate discomfort from sunburn.

6. ACV can be used as a natural aftershave.

Fill a bottle with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water, and shake before applying to the face.

7. It’s an all-natural massage treatment.

Rubbing apple cider vinegar on your hands and feet will give massage-like benefits and relief to tired hands and feet.

8. ACV can aid in weight loss.

For daily weight management, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water. This concoction can be sipped throughout the day.

Apples also contain pectin, which is an insoluble fiber found in many fruits and other plant species. The liver and kidneys are both major elimination organs and it’s important to support them while they work to process toxins from foods, medications, and the environment. Does apple cider vinegar actually help reduce heartburn?

If you walk down the pharmacy aisle, you will see dozens or medications for acid reflux, heartburn, and GERD. These are some of the most common digestive disorders out there, but have you ever wondered why that is and why we have so much acidity? Well, the problem might not be acid at all.

Much of the time, acid reflux is not directly caused by stomach over-acidity, instead it is caused by acid that is supposed to be in the stomach backing up into the esophagus where it causes a burning sensation. When you take conventional acid reflux medication, you neutralize the acid in the esophagus and it relieves the burning sensation. The issue here is that it while it gets rid of the symptoms of acid reflux it doesn’t actually fix the problem.

Many integrative and functional medicine providers suggest that heartburn is actually caused by a lack of stomach acid. Acid is essential when is comes to keeping the valve at the end of the esophagus shut. When this valve stays shut during digestion, it keeps the acid in the stomach where it belongs and where it can do its job of helping with digestion and the absorption of key minerals.

Hydrochloric acid (HCl), the type of acid in your stomach, is essential for your gut health. It helps break down everything you ingest, it keeps your stomach at the right pH for digestive enzymes to work, and it helps attack harmful bacteria that might get into your GI tract.

Holisitc doctors theorize that stomach acid might actually help keep the valvue at the end of the esophagus opening and shutting properly. Therefore, a lack of stomach acid could cause the backflow and uncomfortable symptoms of reflux.

Optimal digestion leads to regular elimination, which is the body’s natural way of flushing out toxins and waste. However in today’s fast paced world many factors such as poor diet, stress and environment can all play a part in an overworked system, leaving us feeling bloated and lethargic.  Colonic hydrotherapy can be a great way to jumpstart your journey to a healthier, more energised you! 1. Apanasana

Apanasana, knees hugged to belly, is known as the “wind-relieving pose.” Hugging the right knee into the belly massages the ascending colon, while hugging the left knee in massages the descending colon. Try this simple pose for improved digestion:

Come to lie on the back. Settle into your yoga mat or wherever you are. Place your feet to the floor, directly beneath the knees. On an inhale, take your hands to your knees. On an exhale, hug the knees comfortably to the belly. Only hug in a comfortable amount. Stay here for 5-10 full breaths.

(Optional: follow with hugging one knee in at a time, first the right and then the left).

2. Twists

We’ve all heard yoga teachers say, “Twisting aids digestion.” It used to go in one ear and out the other, until my own yoga teacher training. Compressing the colon in specific ways (right to left) can really aid in digestion. Detoxifying twists can stimulate the movement of those toxins that accumulate in the body and help usher them out.

Move from apanasana into a simple spinal twist. Hug the knees in gently and take an inhale. On the exhale, drop the knees to the left, compressing the right side of the body. Turn the head to the right for a nice neck stretch. Stay for at 5-10 full breaths. On an inhale return the knees to center and repeat on the other side.

3. Balasana

Balasana, Child’s Pose, compresses the abdomen and massages the internal organs. Similar to apanasana, this pose stimulates the digestive system.

From lying on your back, hug the knees in once more. Roll to your right side, using the right arm as a pillow for the head. Take an inhale and, on the exhale, use the top arm to push up to seated. Come to kneel on the knees and sit back onto the heels. Bringing the knees comfortably wide, fold over the legs and rest your forehead on the floor. Either place the hands back by the feet or stack them under the forehead as a little pillow. Deeply inflate the lower belly against the upper thighs with each breath in Balasana, and remain here for 5-10 full breaths. On the last inhale take your hands to the floor beneath your shoulders and, on your exhale, press up.

If you’ve ever suffered from indigestion, irregular elimination, food allergy symptoms (basically, if you’re human!), you could benefit from these digestion improving yoga postures.

Practicing yoga is excellent at generally increasing one’s physical awareness, which can lead to more mindful eating and, thus, better digestion.

Now, the popcorn itself, even though natural flavors and artificial flavors are listed on the ingredient label of microwave popcorn, we have no way of knowing what’s actually in these ingredients. Food manufacturers won’t tell you and they hide things in there like MSG, beaver’s anal glands and diacetyl butter flavoring. What’s so wrong with a little bit of artificial butter flavoring? Well a lot. This stuff is seriously toxic, which forced Conagra Foods to remove it from their Act branded Microwave popcorn recently because it causes lung issues in workers. Before drinking energy drinks or caffeine, be sure to know your heart’s health.-A new study showed that energy drinks cause more forceful heart contractions, which could be harmful to some with certain heart conditions.- One study showed that between 2009 and 2011 there were 4854 calls to poison control centers regarding energy drinks. 51% of these calls were involving children.

Eat plenty everyday.

I drink this for a week before a big event to help me flush my body of toxins and to debloat. I drink at least eight 8 oz cups or more depending on my activity level. Not only does this taste good…it works.

Here’s the recipe for the Natural  Detox Water: (for one 24 oz serving) –

3-5 slices of fresh cucumber

– 1/2 small lemon sliced
– 1/4 of orange sliced
– a few fresh mint leaves
– 24 oz of ice cold water

Why does this work?

*Cucumbers prevent water retention and also have many anti-inflammatory properties. *Lemon provides the cleansing effect of citric acid to help clear out the digestive syste *Oranges contain flavonoids in the peel and juice that stimulate the immune system and protects against a fungi/pests while helping to reduce cholesterol levels *Mint helps the body digest more easily and it also soothes any stomach cramps you may have. Keep in mind that the more you refill your jug, glass or bottle with the same fruits, the more diluted and less nutrient-dense the fruit becomes. So I would recommend that after 2 or 3 refills, dump it and replace with fresh cuts to make sure you get all the vitamins and minerals you need. I also wouldn’t leave the fruits in there for more than 24 hrs before changing it.
